Romona’s viola journey began at Pine Forest Elementary School (now Pine Forest School of the Arts) in Jacksonville, Florida, under the guidance of her first private teacher, Ruth Paugh, a veteran violinist with the Jacksonville Symphony.
Her talent shone early, earning her the Jacksonville Symphony Concerto Competition win as a high school senior, where she performed as a guest soloist for local educational concerts.
She honed her craft further with a Bachelor of Music from the North Carolina School of the Arts and a Master of Music in Performance from the University of Minnesota, studying under esteemed teachers Sally Peck and Roland Vamos.
Romona served as a full-time violist with the Alabama Symphony for 17 seasons and has been a valued substitute with the Detroit Symphony since 2011. In 2018 and 2021, she was honored with Sphinx MPower Grants, enabling advanced teacher training. Passionate about nurturing young musicians,Romona loves building a strong musical foundation for violin and viola students.
Today, she performs regularly with the Jacksonville Symphony and Florida Chamber Music Project, and we’re thrilled to welcome her talent to String Theory Music!
